Denominacin de Origen (appellation): The name given to a
wine coming
from a specific region and possessing particular qualities and character, based
on the variety of grape, the wine-making process and aging.
Spain has 55 Denominaciones de Origen.
Wines are also classified by the time
they have been aged in oak barrels and in the bottle.
RED WINE:
Crianza: Total aging: 2 years (6 months in
barrel / 18 months bottle)
Reserva: Total aging: 3 years (12 months in
barrel / 24 months in
bottle).
Gran Reserva: Total aging: 5 years (24 months
in barrel / 36 months in
bottle)
