Charles
Shaw v. Pacific Ridge.
We've tasted them both and the reviews are in.
While none of the wines
tasted could be considered great, a
couple were passable and a couple were not.
Two of the Pacific Peak
wines barely rated a
on our rating scale. The Chardonnay
had
nice aroma and decent flavors but it was too acidic throughout. The
Cabernet Sauvignon
featured modest aromas and fruit flavors and again was, in our
opinion, too acidic. The Merlot rated only ,
with virtually no aroma and lacking in flavor,
it too had a bite that made it unpleasant.
Our overall opinion was that these wines, even at $2 were really not
worth the money.
We sampled the Charles
Shaw Cabernet
side by side with the Pacific Peak Cab
and concluded that by a narrow margin the Charles Shaw was slightly more
pleasing.
Note: ( We previously tasted the Shaw Cab and gave it ,
this 2nd tasting
was not consistent with the first and makes us wonder if there is any
consistency in
these bargain wines).
In December we tasted & rated the Charles Shaw Merlot
& Chardonnay .
Both were simple and easy drinking with fruity flavors.
Our conclusions are that the Charles Shaw was superior to the Pacific
Peak - though
neither wine really impresses. Despite the price point, we'd rather
spend a few more
dollars for a wine & winemaker we can trust will deliver.
