Barnwood Vineyards

1998 BARNWOOD Trio, Santa Barbara County 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah. Things start out with assertive aromas of ripe, dark berry fruit laced with sweet oak notes and a waft of violets. With plenty of structure and palate weight, the fruit powers through, leaving a trail of bakers chocolate on the finish. The tannins are firm but yield to a velvety softness as the wines full body pleasantly coats the inside of the mouth. 13.1% alcohol is indicated on the label but it drinks bigger than that.  About $25.         10/03/01         Tom
