1998 SADDLEBACK Cabernet Sauvignon When it comes to 1998 California Cabernets, there seems to be a lot of confusion as to people writing off an entire vintage after reading a few reviews. As many cabs as I drink, this is a perfect example of rushing to a wrong conclusion. I will admit I did sample this wine upon release and you could tell it was not ready. Well, last night I opened a bottle and the old saying "good things come to those who wait" was there to greet me like an old friend. Opened with a monstrous bing cherry nose. Extracted fruit notes of blackberry and cassis with a small dose of dusty, tart strawberry on the finish. The cedary tannins were perfect, showing on a dense, medium bodied frame. Serve with Steak and twice baked potato.  About $54                        04/08/03               David
