2000 PALIO VECCHIO Red Wine, Napa
Valley
Here is a new project from Napa Valley's Luna Vineyards. Luna is a
Cal-Italian label that has had great success with Merlot, Sangiovese and
Pinot Grigio. Star wine-maker John Kongsgaard oversees happenings at
Luna. Palio Vecchio is made with fruit that didn't make the cut for the
regular Luna bottlings and is thusly value-priced. The 2000 Red Wine is a
blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. It sports a light to medium-body and offers up ripe
fruit flavors of raspberries and cherries.
Adequately constructed, these wines come across as sort of plain vanilla,
a bit devoid of much personality.
