Goosecross Cellars

1997 GOOSECROSS CELLARS Sauvignon Blanc, California  From this boutique, organic winemaker in Napa comes yet another jewel of a wine.  It opens with the classic Loire Valley bouquet: herbal, vegetal grassiness.  But its intense ripe pear flavors mingled with notes of citrus and a suggestion of vanilla move it away from the classic style of Sancerre, being exposed to oak during fermentation.  It is soft and round in the mouth and loiters nicely on the palate.  Rich and lovely!  With only 900 cases produced, it's tough to find but worth the search.  Because it is somewhat pricey, we have to limit our recommendation to three glasses.       About $17        03/17/98
