1998 CASTLE ROCK Reserve
Chardonnay, San Luis Obispo
Ripe
tropical fruit, almost banana-like, along with robust aromas of creamy
vanilla come together in the very pronounced bouquet. Soft and buttery,
with a long honeyed finish, flavors of ripe apple and melon abound,
while some spritzy citrus notes try to push their way through. A nuance
of bitterness ends up on the palate when the butter subsides, but it's a
minor flaw in this big, muscular Chard and is easy to overlook
considering its a lot of wine for $14.
