1995 LOCKWOOD Merlot, Monterey Beautiful aromas of sweet, dark berries, creamy vanilla, and chocolate, signatures of Merlot at its best, abound in this inky, dark burgundy California red.  On the attack it imparts a soft, luscious mouthfeel, bringing flavors of blackberries, vanilla and chocolate.  Yet, with all its suppleness, it shows nice bracing acidity.  And then, a pronounced creamy vanilla finish.  Wonderful! It's tannins are soft, but the palate is left with a tweak of residual bitter oak.  But, who cares?!?  Sip this lovely with some imported chocolate...divine!          10/17/98
