1999 McDOWELL Syrah,
Mendocino
The
nose is dominated by aromas of black coffee, with just a hint of dark
fruit. At first, it attacked the palate with lots of charred, woody
flavors, and gritty tannins. All this packed into a medium body did not
make for a good first impression. A couple of days later and, viola! Grit
and char were gone and were replaced by beautiful bright fruit flavors. Go
figure! $13. Eventually, two glasses.
