1999 CLOUDY BAY Sauvignon Blanc,
Marlborough

Gooseberry, quince and passion fruit, along with herbal grassiness, are
rampant in the aromas and flavors, framed by that steely, bracing citrus
acidity. Conspicuous by its absence is the usual stone fruit component,
peach or nectarine. But, in its place is a lovely element of tart pear.
Vintage after vintage, arguably the best expression of the Sauvignon Blanc
varietal in the world. It's hard to be objective.
About $20.
