1999 STONEHILL WINERY Seyval

This
is a great dry white wine! The wines of Missouri are not well known in the
US, or at least they are less known than the world acclaimed Californian
wines - and for good reasons I'd say - but the wine under review is
something different.
The color is straw yellow with green reflections. The scent is
intense and persistent, and is an harmonic mixture of green apple and
freshly mown grass, with a hint of white rose and just a tiny bit of oak. The wine is barrel
aged, but it in a wise manner, since the oak that one feels underneath
complements, not covers, the superb bouquet of the wine.
In the
mouth it is as good as it is in the nose: It has good acidity, but at
the same time it is pleasantly warm, and has a long and pleasant
aftertaste. There is nothing out of place in this wine, not even the
ratio between quality and price. About $12. 09/04/01
