1998 DOMAINE DES BLAGUEURS Syrah/Sirrah

Offbeat
red begins with a modest bouquet of spicy dark fruit, almost tomato
like, with a bit of smoky oak. Medium bodied with chewy tannins, the
palate is subjected to tart fruit flavors that seem to contain an
element of black coffee with a burnt, bitter edge. Everything yields to
chewy tannin and burnt coffee on the finish. It sports a whimsical
label, characteristic of its importer, Randall Graham of Bonny Doon
Vineyards. And, a black synthetic stopper seems very apropos for this
wine.
