1996 SANTA EMA Merlot Reserve,
Maipo Valley
Smoky butterscotch aromas greet you with this Chilean red. A mineral note
follows the smokiness but gets lost in the butterscotch, smoke, and dark fruit
flavors that follow. The wine finishes with the butterscotch overwhelming
everything else. This wine is begging for more fruit flavors, and, along with
the mineral note, doesn't seem to hang together.
