1999 MONTES Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenere,  Apalta Vineyard From a most famous Chilean wine producer comes an amazing jewel of a red. Medium bodied, very soft and very complex, it carries a tantalizing bouquet of very forward aromas of coffee and herbs, with dark fruit riding in the back seat. Additionally, elements of menthol and cola reveal themselves. On the palate, the fruit comes forward, with flavors of oh so ripe black cherries and plums, with a nice long finish of smoky bacon or ham and some nuances of chocolate. 70% Cab, 30% Carmenere, this lovely is loaded with interest.  About $12.                                07/08/00                 Tom
