On the western shores of Chile's Tinguiririca River, near Rapel Lake, La Playa Vineyards occupies some of the Colchagua Valley's most desirable acreage. With near-perfect growing conditions, but still relatively undeveloped, Colchagua has been described as "The Next Napa" by Wine Enthusiast. Its pure water comes from snowmelt on the Tinguiririca Volcano in the Andes.
La Playa Vineyards, known in Chile as Via La Playa S.A., is a joint venture between the Axelsen (California), Errazuriz (Chile), and Sutil (Chile) families.

Tasting Notes Ratings Explained
1997 La Playa Merlot, Maipo Valley

A simple wine with restrained aromas, it is soft with flavors of blackberries and a touch of vanilla on the finish.  A great value.
About $8.                          09/27//02              Steve
1997 LA PLAYA Claret, Maipo Valley
wpe3.jpg (1244 bytes)wpe3.jpg (1244 bytes)
55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Modest aromas and flavors of black cherries and cranberries are presented in a light body with little tannin. Some chocolate notes emerge on the nice long fruit finish. A fairly simple wine but another great value from a producer of many value wines.
About $8.                           10/25/00                  Tom
1999 LA PLAYA Sauvignon Blanc, Maipo Valley
wpe3.jpg (1244 bytes)wpe3.jpg (1244 bytes)
Perfect grassy, vegetal, citrus bouquet, showing stone fruit notes and pipi du chat.  Additional elements of quince and gooseberry flavors are present, adding to the aromas very nicely. Crisp, spritzy citrus finishes properly. A very good expression of the Sauvignon Blanc varietal from another land down under, Chile.
About $6                           04/06/00                Tom
