1998 BIANCHI Merlot, California

The
bouquet is lovely, with flavors to match. Candied cherries with a rosy
floral overlay, slightly herbal and minty. Of course, as expected, it's
light bodied, but exhibits a very lingering finish. Truth is it hails
from Madera in California's central valley, not exactly a hot bed of
vitis vinifera. But, who cares? With a suspect pedigree, this wine still
performs. At $6, we give it two glasses.
