Sonoma: April
1, 2004
Ravenswood where they boast they make
"No Wimpy Wines" is a short drive from the
Sonoma Square. If you haven't visited there in a few years you will be
pleasantly surprised by the new Tasting Room. Still set in the same
bucolic country environment, surrounded by flowering lavender plants,
California grasses, native oaks and eucalyptus trees,
the new room boasts a fireplace and a large tasting bar, a small
gift shop that features their signature T's, sweatshirts and hats. Be
sure to pick up a "No Wimpy Wines" bumper sticker, button, or tattoo.
Daily they feature as many as 12 of their wines for sampling.
On summer weekends they
still roll out the barbecue. The menu rotates weekly, featuring ribs,
chicken and skirt steak, along with heaping helpings of cole slaw,
potato salad and grilled Portobello mushrooms. Prices range from $9-$14
depending on the menu, there's even a kid's menu for $5 and a selection
of Sonoma County cheeses is also available for those seeking lighter
fare. Barbecues happen rain or shine and reservations are not required.
On our visit we found the
staff friendly and knowledgeable. This seems to be a place where
everyone loves their work and it shows in the enthusiasm and dedication
of the employees. We tasted several wines and found them all to our
liking. Click this link to read our
Tasting Notes.
